With over 100 years of preparing and serving teachers and administrators, Concordia realizes that educators are busy individuals whose time is precious. With this in mind, we strive to offer programs that will enrich and hone skills, meet state licensing requirements, and fit into the schedules of our students.

Program Delivery Options

On-Campus

• Classes are held at our Northeast Portland campus
• Fall (September) and Spring (January) classes are 16 weeks in length
• Summer (June) classes are offered in 4 and 8 week sessions

Online

• Classes are offered three times a semester and are five weeks in length
• Students may complete and entire program within an online cohort or opt to take a class as it fits into their schedule

Cost Per Credit

Average Tuition Costs

Costs will vary depending on number of credits per program, whether any credits transfer into the program, and fees that may be associated with individual classes. Tuition costs typically increase every summer for the on-campus and online classes.

Financial Aid

Graduate students are eligible to take out federal student loans to cover the entire cost of the program. To apply for loans, complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov. Concordia’s school code for the FAFSA is 003191.

Concordia’s Office of Financial Aid and Finance Department will gladly work with students and their school districts to make the most of any district educational funding that may be available. 

Students may also be eligible for the federal loan forgiveness program for teachers. This benefit is given to students who teach at a Title I School for five consecutive years. The current amount of the loan forgiveness program ranges from $5,000 - $17,500 depending on the authorization and endorsements for which a teacher is licensed.

• Create an environment in which students create strong personal and professional bonds with their professors and fellow classmates
• Provide individual service to each student and invest in his or her success in the program

We realize that educators have several options for pursuing their graduate coursework.  We also recognize that taking classes is an investment of time and money.  We want interested candidates to get the information needed for them to determine how Concordia University can help them get the best return on their investment and succeed in meeting their personal and professional goals.

Individual Appointments: Our counselors will gladly meet with you on campus or come to you at or near your place of employment.

Information Sessions: Held several times a month on campus and throughout the year in locations across the state. Our information sessions are posted to the right.

Priority Application Deadlines

• Summer Semester - April 15 (Classes begin in mid-June)
• Fall Semester - June 15 (Classes begin in early September)
• Spring Semester - October 15 (Classes begin in early January)

Because applicants’ files are reviewed as they are completed, we encourage candidates to apply as soon as they are able. Concordia will continue to accept quality candidates until the cohort or class is full. Once a cohort or class reaches its maximum, a waitlist is created.

Admission Checklist for the Masters of Education Program

• M.Ed. Application - Attend an information session or an individual appointment (on campus or at your place of work) and we will waive your $50 application fee!
• Official transcripts verifying a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.  The IAL and CAL programs require a master's degree
• Letter of intent
• Résumé that lists education, recent work experience, and any experiences in education settings
• 2 Letters of Recommendation
• Character Questionnaire - required by the state of Oregon
• Teaching License (Not required for M.Ed. in Educational Leadership)
